June 22, 2012 – UPDATE –  Pharmacy Robbery Arrest

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department reports that on June 21, 2012 at 5:21 p.m. they responded to a reported armed robbery at Walgreen’s, 2018 South Road, in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

A white male suspect in his twenties entered the store and approached the Pharmacist behind the counter. The suspect stated that he had a gun (which was not displayed) and demanded a quantity of Oxycodone and hypodermic needles. The Pharmacist complied and the suspect fled the store. There were no reported injuries.

Prior to this robbery, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department had been conducting an ongoing investigation concerning a similar robbery on June 15, 2012 at the Rite Aid store, 3350 North Road, Town of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The suspect descriptions in both cases were similar and the suspect demanded Oxycodone. In addition, on June 15, 2012 at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Town of Hyde Park Police Department investigated an attempted robbery at a CVS Pharmacy in which the suspect’s description matched up with the Town of Poughkeepsie incident.

The follow-up police investigation after the robbery at Walgreen’s on June 21, 2012 connected a reported stolen car in the Town of Hyde Park on June 21, 2012, a 1997 Plymouth, to the suspect committing the robbery. This vehicle had been described by witnesses as leaving the scene of the robbery.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police Detectives discovered the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a motel on Route 9 in the Town of Hyde Park the same evening where the suspect was staying. At approximately 9:51 p.m.. the suspect was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the suspect’s room resulted in the recovery of an undisclosed quantity of Oxycodone and hypodermic needles.

The defendant has been charged by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department with the robberies of June 15, 2012 and June 21, 2012. The suspect has also been linked to the attempted robbery of CVS in Hyde Park on June 15, 2012 at approximately 11:00 a.m. and the theft of two (2) motor vehicles in Hyde Park as well. The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department has been contacted by several police departments in New Jersey concerning pharmacy robberies that may possibly be attributed to the defendant. These cases remain under investigation.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by the Town of Hyde Park Police Department and the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department K9 Unit.

The defendant was arraigned before Judge Maloney of the City of Poughkeepsie Court on June 22, 2012.  Defendant was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond on each count. Defendant is due in Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court on June 25, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.

A K9 from the Village of Wappingers Police Department assisted in the search.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department has been conducting an ongoing investigation concerning a similar robbery on June 15, 2012 at the Rite Aid store, 3350 North Road, in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

A suspect was taken into custody by Town of Poughkeepsie Police Detectives at 9:51 p.m. (June 21, 2012) at a motel in the Town of Hyde Park.

An updated press release concerning the arrest will be released to the media later today. The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department will not be accepting any press inquiries about this matter until that time.

June 15, 2012 –  Armed Robbery

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department reports investigating the robbery of the Rite Aid Pharmacy located at 3350 North Road, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., a male approached the pharmacy counter of the business and handed the clerk a note demanding a quantity of narcotics. The clerk gave the male a quantity of pills and he fled the store on foot. No weapon was displayed and no one was injured. The suspect is described as a white male, 6′ tall with short cropped reddish hair and a tattoo inside his right forearm.

An extensive search of the area was conducted by officers and detectives from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department K-9 Unit and City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

June 8, 2012 –  Vehicle Arson Arrest

On November 10, 2011 at approximately 1:30 a.m. the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded for the report of a stolen vehicle at the Poughkeepsie Inn, 2625 South Road, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The female caller reported someone had just stolen her vehicle, a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, from in front of her room and fled the area. The female stated she believed her ex-boyfriend was responsible for the theft.

At approximately 7:35 a.m. on this date the police department received a call reporting a disabled vehicle on Hudson Harbor Drive in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Responding officers located the vehicle and determined it was the stolen 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was also determined that the interior of the vehicle had been heavily damaged by fire.

The vehicle was processed by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Fire Investigators and Crime Scene Technicians.

After a lengthy investigation, two (2) subjects were arrested for stealing the vehicle and setting the vehicle on fire. The investigation revealed that defendant Ernest Goodman (ex-boyfriend of the victim) hired co-defendant Stacy Cook to steal the vehicle and set it on fire.

Ernest Goodman was arrested on June 7, 2012 and Stacy Cook was arrested on June 6, 2012.
